Found this on the forums and thought it was interesting:
The size of the first continent (Myrland) is approximately 64km² (about the same as Manhattan), not counting dungeons. Of course the traversable area is somewhat smaller because of mountains, water etc.
64km² = 8km*8km = (8km)²
It is not 64km*64km, (64km)² or 8km²*8km²
To illustrate: if 10 000 players were to be on the continent at the same time, that’s an average of 6400m² per player. If everyone were standing in a square grid pattern, that means you’d be 80m from your four closest neighbours.

To help you all out a little A football field is 100 yards -
1 yard = 0.9144 meters
Making one football field = 91.44 meters.
So, almost that far from everyone if 10,000 people were on all at the same time in a grid..
Think of returning a punt for a touchdown that you picked up on your teams 12 and a half yard line… If you can’t picture it in your head – here’s a video.
